In the Ken-Ton community, 1 of every 10 people is 75 or older. Helping older adults live safely and independently in their homes is more critical now than ever. Over 8.3 million older adults are facing the threat of senior hunger in the United States today. Home-delivered meals are a key resource to ensure nutritional needs are met for many frail, homebound seniors.
Ken-Ton Meals on Wheels is the ONLY program serving home delivered meals in the Village of Kenmore and the Town of Tonawanda. We are an independent, private, nonprofit organization not affiliated with any other Meals on Wheels program in WNY. For 35 years, we have delivered delicious, nutritious meals to our elderly and disabled neighbors who would otherwise be unable to shop and cook for themselves. We assist over 500 different individuals each year and serve about 1,500 meals per week and 75,000 meals a year!
We like to say Ken-Ton Meals on Wheels is about “more than just a meal”. For many of our clients, the volunteer delivering their meal is the only person they see that day. Our volunteers provide care and encouragement to those we serve. We have over 200 different volunteers who serve a combined total of more than 21,500 hours each year!
Here are some things our clients and their caregivers have told us this year:
“I appreciate you taking time for me and making sure I’m fed. Your kindness overwhelms me.”
“Thank you for your kind consideration in calling me when my mom didn’t answer her door. It gives me a good feeling that you and your organization care about our seniors.”
“I was a Ken-Ton Meals on Wheels volunteer for over 20 years. I will be 90 soon and now receive meals! I know what a great program it is!”
“I appreciate the delicious food and all who take time to deliver it.”
“Thanks for all your help providing meals to my parents. Despite their initial reluctance to get help, they rave about how good the food is.”
“Your volunteer went way above and beyond when they found my mom had fallen and broke her hip. We cannot thank you enough for all you do!”
“I want to thank you for being a lifesaver for me while my fractured foot healed.”
